The 10,000 Whole Hearts Project was founded by Whole Hearted Medicine. The heart is a symbol of caring for doctors by doctors. As newly diagnosed devotees of crocheting, we have channelled this energy into producing crocheted hearts. Our ambitious goal is to distribute 10,000 hearts to other doctors as a symbol of support to all medical colleagues. You can wear the hearts like a brooch or simply have them in your pocket or handbag. You can attach them to the back of your ID and know that somewhere another doctor has made this for you.
If you would like to contribute to this project and crochet some hearts, please get in touch with us. info@wholeheartedmedicine.com.au
Alternatively, if you are a doctor who is in need of a heart or know someone who is, please contact us and we will send them out to you.
We would also love to hear from you if you are a hospital well-being officer.
If you feel like sharing photos of yourself or colleagues wearing their hearts, please use the hashtag

Meet our Crafters
DR Hannah Bourke
Amy fell in love with the art of crochet about 5years ago and was lucky to work with a skilled receptionist who encouraged her and helped troubleshoot early protects. It also helped that she failed miserably at knitting. She is a Mum, GP and Medical Educator in Sydney. Her phone album has several hundred toddler and dog photos but she had to scroll back 2 months to find a presentable selfie.
I’m a GP mum on the Sunshine Coast.
I started crocheting 8 years ago, my mum taught me so I could make a blanket I saw in a magazine, probably so she didn’t have to make it for me! I haven’t picked up a hook until this week to start these beautiful hearts and it has warmed my soul. I needed a focus and something to show my support for my colleagues. It has helped me knowing that they are going to those that are working so incredibly hard and suffering silently in this pandemic and lockdown. We are all grateful for the work they do everyday, so thank you.
